There are five types of mod for assault rifles, each providing a different benefit. For each type, there is one basic mod and two upgrades which provide a greater benefit, but with detrimental effects. Only the basic mods are available at the first tier in singleplayer.

- AR Barrel: Enhances a weapon's barrel, creating greater gunfire velocity and impact.
- AR Long Barrel: Substantially increases damage, but reduces clip size.
- AR Short Barrel: Substantially increases damage, but at the cost of accuracy.

Receiver[ | ]
- AR Receiver: Capacitor boosts kinetic coil generators, increasing shot penetration through solid objects.
- AR Calibrated Receiver: Allows shots to significantly penetrate solid objects, but reduces headshot/weak point damage.
- AR Quick Receiver: Allows shots to significantly penetrate solid objects, but reduces clip size.
The M-37 Falcon, P.A.W., and Sovoa cannot be equipped with a receiver.

- AR Scope: Simple optical scope to enhance stability while zoomed. Also increases accuracy while moving.
- AR Recon Scope: Substantially increases accuracy, but at the cost of increased recoil.
- AR Tactical Scope: Substantially increases accuracy, but at the cost of fire rate.
- AR Targeting System: Specialized targeting system that increases accuracy of a modified weapon without using a scope.†
The Soned cannot be equipped with a scope.

- Mods that increase or decrease weight are all percentage-based reductions. Depending upon the exact mod and weapon, some mods are close to the stated benefits/penalties, some are slightly lower or higher, and a few are not even close to the stated value. - Accuracy is a different weapon property than stability. The accuracy of a weapon will change the size of the aiming reticle. Stability reduces the kickback and rise of the weapon during firing.
