Conversation is the communication system for engaging in dialogue with other characters.

Overview[]

The conversation wheel is a system where certain conversation choices Expand the conversation and certain conversation choices change the Tone of a conversation without expanding the conversation. There are several items to take into account:

  • The conversation wheel text displayed rarely says what Pathfinder Ryder will actually say.
  • The conversation wheel text is meant to give a general description of the answer but the actual dialogue will often be much more complex.
  • While guessing the dialogue based on the conversation wheel text is usually safe, there will be occasions where the conversation will take an unexpected turn, or not be what was assumed at all. A reload of a previous save or checkpoint may be the only way to change a conversation choice. Save often.

Take note - there is no morality system in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Pathfinder Ryder isn't limited to Paragon "good" or Renegade "bad" choices based on previous conversation choices. There are a small number of major conversation choices that limit future choices but for the most part conversation choices don't limit future options.

Conversation Choices[]

Conversation choices expand the conversation topics that Pathfinder Ryder can explore. Each choice has an associated icon in the conversation wheel. These icons are not fixed to a location on the conversation wheel.

Icon Conversation Choice Description
Story Conversation Choice Icon.png Story Selecting this conversation choice will stop the current line of dialogue and will move to a new conversation branch about a different subject or potentially a different part of the current subject. This choice moves conversations forward.
Investigation Conversation Choice Icon.png Investigation Selecting this conversation choice will provide extra information or potentially extra conversation sub menus before moving a conversation forward. This choice may or may not result in a few additional sub menus but won't lock Pathfinder Ryder out of the current branching dialogue paths.
Friendship Conversation Choice Icon.png Friendship Selecting this conversation choice develops friendships. This choice can open potential Loyalty missions but doesn't lock Pathfinder Ryder out of Romance choices.
Flirt Conversation Choice Icon.png Flirt Selecting this conversation choice is the flirtation option. Conversation choices along these lines deal with romance. This isn't an all or nothing conversation choice. Pathfinder Ryder has to flirt many times to develop a romance and the option to lock in a romance will be very clearly stated.

Be aware that unlike all other possible romantic partners, romance with Jaal Ama Darav starts with Two People icon conversation choices. This isn't readily apparent until the conversations turn quite intimate in nature (much more than a friendship conversation choice would imply).

Conversation Tone Choices[]

Conversation tone choices change how Ryder responds during conversation. These four conversation choices that will help determine Ryder's ever changing psychological profile.

Emotional Conversation Icon.png Emotional Top Left Pathfinder Ryder listens to the heart rather than the head, even if this breaks the rules. Pathfinder Ryder responds with sympathy, anger, or passion.
Logical Conversation Icon.png Logical Top Right Pathfinder Ryder has thought of the pros and/or cons and does what makes the most sense. Pathfinder Ryder responds with pragmatism and rational thought over emotions.
Casual Conversation Icon.png Casual Bottom Left Pathfinder Ryder is less focused on the task at hand and more relaxed. Pathfinder Ryder responds with jokes or light-hearted dialogue.
Professional Conversation Icon.png Professional Bottom Right Pathfinder Ryder focuses on what the job requires rather than emotional responses. Pathfinder Ryder responds with formal courtesy.

While there are four tone choices available, some conversation wheel choices may not be available for all conversations.

Tone choices affect how other NPCs view Pathfinder Ryder and how those NPCs interact with Pathfinder Ryder during conversations. The tone choices during the conversation allow the flexibility to express a personality by giving different responses while allowing the same outcome at the end of the conversation. Be aware that in a few small instances tone choices can affect gameplay so it is always advised to save often and reload if the intended outcome of a conversation isn't acquired.

Narrative Actions[]

Narrative Action Prompt

Narrative actions are impulse actions that will likely affect the outcome of the current situation. These choices may not have the same black or white effect on the personality of Pathfinder Ryder.

  • Narrative actions are always shown in the lower right corner of the screen as an orange exclamation point Narrative Action Icon.png.
  • The action description that Pathfinder Ryder can perform with the narrative action will be to the left of the icon.
  • There is an orange bar that travels clockwise around the exclamation point as a timer to indicate how long Pathfinder Ryder has to make the decision to use the narrative action or not.

Push Off A Better Beginning Ryder has the option to forcefully push Peebee off.
Jump A Better Beginning Ryder has the option to jump down the gravity well first or let Peebee jump first.
Kill Her A Trail of Hope Ryder has the option to shoot the Cardinal.
Disarm Hunting the Archon Ryder has the option to grab a pistol from a turian guard.
Comfort The Journey to Meridian Ryder has the option to hug your sibling.
Kiss Cora Harper: A Foundation Ryder has the option to kiss Cora Harper.
Dodge Nakmor Drack: Knock 'em Down Ryder has the option to dodge a punch from the pirate.
Shoot Peebee: A Mysterious Remnant Signal Ryder has the option to shoot or save Kalinda T'Reve.
Kill Him Jaal Ama Darav: Flesh and Blood Ryder has the option to shoot Akksul.
Shoot Vetra Nyx: Means and Ends Ryder has the option to shoot at Meriweather.
Jump-jet Vetra Nyx: A Moment Planetside Ryder has the option to use the jump-jet to fly up the cliff side past Vetra Nyx.
Kiss Vetra Nyx: A Moment Planetside Ryder has the option to kiss Vetra Nyx.
Hug Ryder has the option to hug Vetra Nyx.
Kiss Ryder has the option to kiss Suvi Anwar.
Hug Suvi Anwar: New Discoveries Ryder has the option to hug Suvi Anwar.
Kiss Suvi Anwar: New Discoveries Ryder has the option to kiss Suvi Anwar.
Save Sloane High Noon Ryder has the option to push Sloane Kelly out of the path of a bullet.
Shoot Reyes High Noon Ryder has the option to shoot Reyes Vidal as he flees.
Kiss Night on the Town Ryder has the option to kiss Reyes Vidal for a distraction.
Punch him Night on the Town Ryder has the option to punch Reyes Vidal for a distraction.
Hug her Jaal Ama Darav: Runs in the Family Ryder has the option to hug Sahuna Ama Darav.
Kiss Jaal Ama Darav: Angaran Affection Ryder has the option to kiss Jaal Ama Darav.
Declare love Jaal Ama Darav: Angaran Affection Ryder has the option to declare their love for Jaal Ama Darav.
More Ryder has the option to have more physical romantic contact with Liam Kosta.
Disconnect Liam Kosta: All In Ryder has the option to turn off the console.
Shoot Liam Kosta: All In Ryder has the option to shoot the console.
Interrupt Liam Kosta: All In Ryder has the option to stop the conversation.
Jump Liam Kosta: Something for Us Ryder has the option to grab Liam Kosta and jump off the arch.
