The Item Pickup menu is an interface used when interacting with containers or remains.
Overview[]
While it isn't explained in-game, what seems like a simple interface to pick up items from containers or fallen enemies, is actually more complex than first glance.
The Item Pickup menu is actually a combination of the Inventory menu and a Loadout terminal. It should be stated, however, that these combined functions don't work as well as the two full menus and caution should be observed.
The following items can be found on the Item Pickup menu:
Mechanics[]
The Item Pickup menu appears whenever a Container or set of Remains is interacted with and opened. A display will list what items are available, options for each item, and a description window for each item.
The following options of what can be done inside this menu depend upon the number of items and the items themselves. While options are named the same in this menu, not all options function the same.
It is not possible to take existing items from inventory and leave them in a container or remains to free up space. Items can only be deconstructed, destroyed, sold, and/or used to free up space.
Take[]
This function is used to transfer individual items one at a time or all at once using the Take All choice into Inventory.
This function is subject to the inventory item limit. Attempting to pick up items beyond the limit will display Inventory Full screen.
Take All[]
This item / function appears whenever there are two or more items available. This will be the first item above all of the other items with a special black icon . Selecting this item and choosing the Take option transfers all items and the receptacle will be emptied immediately and can't be interacted with again.
It is possible to move down the list of items and individually take items without closing the receptacle for good. As long as there are still items left, the receptacle can be interacted with again. Moving to the top of the list will still allow Take All to be selected.
Compare[]
This function appears only for firearm weapons. No other items have this option including melee weapons. The default setting is Compare: Off. Selecting this choice will compare the item in the list to the firearm currently equipped. Continuing to select this choice will cycle through each additional weapon currently equipped until Off appears again.
Deconstruct[]
This function is the same as the deconstruct function found in other menus. Selecting this choice will bring up a list of the returned materials and a confirmation menu. Deconstructing the item will return to the Item Pickup menu if additional items are still available or close the receptacle permanently if that was the only/final item.
Only items that can be deconstructed will show this choice.
Equip[]
The equip function is unique because it is possible to equip items in the field without having to go to a loadout terminal. However, there are limitations and issues with equipping items in this fashion.
There are four types of item that show the equip function and the type will determine whether the Equip Weapon or Equip Consumable sub-menu will appear.
- Armor - Arms, Chests, Helmets, and Legs - No sub-menu appears
- Consumables - Equip Consumables - Sub-menu appears
- Firearm weapons - Equip Weapon - Sub-menu appears
- Melee weapons - No sub-menu appears
Be aware! These equip choices can't be undone easily. Make sure you understand the mechanics of how this works before deciding to add and/or change an item.
- Equipping any armor piece or a melee weapon adds or replaces the existing item immediately. There is no confirmation or ability to undo this choice.
- The firearms and consumables sub-menus can be backed out of using a suitable button as long as a change hasn't been made.
Equip Consumable[]
This sub-menu will appear if you choose to equip any consumable. This menu mirrors the state of the currently equipped consumables including any locked slots .
There are two options to make changes - Replace Consumable or Select Slot.
- Replace Consumable immediately replaces the existing consumable with the selected consuamble from the Item Pickup menu. There is no confirmation or ability to undo the choice.
- Select Slot immediately adds the consumable to that slot from the Item Pickup menu. There is no confirmation or ability to undo this choice.
Equipping the consumable will return to the Item Pickup menu if additional items are still available or closes the receptacle permanently if that was the only/final item.
It is possible to back out of this sub-menu using the Close option and to not make a change.
Equip Weapon[]
This sub-menu will appear if you choose to equip any firearm. This menu mirrors the state of the currently equipped firearms including any locked slots. No melee weapons are shown.
Weapons will display currently equipped mods but it is not possible to add, change, and/or or equip mods from this sub-menu.
There are two options to make changes - Replace Weapon or Select Slot.
- Replace Weapon immediately replaces the existing weapon with the selected firearm from the Item Pickup menu. There is no confirmation or ability to undo the choice.
- Select Slot immediately adds the weapon to that slot from the Item Pickup menu. There is no confirmation or ability to undo this choice.
Equipping the weapon will return to the Item Pickup menu if additional items are still available or closes the receptacle permanently if that was the only/final item.
It is possible to back out of this sub-menu using the Close option and to not make a change.
Close[]
It is possible to close out of a container or a set of remains and not take all of the items. Doing so will allow you to open the Item Pickup menu again as long as there are still items to be taken.
