Research Data Orphans

Research data orphans are cleverly hidden sources of Research Data (RD) found on planets in the heleus cluster.

Overview[ | ]

Most RD is associated with missions and other high traffic areas making it relatively easy to find if Ryder is willing to use the scanner to explore. However, there is also cleverly hidden RD that can be found if Ryder is willing venture off the beaten path. These are known as orphan RD items because it is unlikely Ryder will come across these unless specifically exploring to find them.

RD items that would typically be found while completing a mission are found on the specific mission page or location page.

Orphan RD items are mostly +100 RD but there are a few +10 RD items as well. Finding these orphans can give a large amount of RD if Ryder is willing to locate them.

Be aware that Angaran Integrated Tech Node (AITN) is at the bottom of a deep sinkhole with a Level 3 Heat Hazard. Ryder will likely have to complete Taming a Desert to be able to get down into the sinkhole, scan the AITN, and get back out without dying.

There are an interconnected set of orphan RD items comprised of four Heavy Motive Engines and two Kett Heavy Motive Engines in six different locations.

The Heavy Motive Engines have four unique scans, each worth +10 Heleus RD.
The two Kett Heavy Motive Engines are somewhat perplexing. There is a complete vehicle on a road above and to the west of The Golden Wastes. Below the complete vehicle, in The Golden Wastes, there is a pile of parts with the same scan. Either can be scanned for +10 Heleus RD, but not both.
